Most found pets already have a home and simply wandered a little too far!

OCHS has teamed up with the community to help reunite many found pets before they even step foot in the shelter using the power of social media and Lost & Found databases such as Petco Love Lost, Lost Dogs of Wisconsin, Lost Cats of Wisconsin!

I found or lost a pet, now what?

Don’t panic — YOU’VE GOT THIS!

Call your local Humane Society/Animal Control and your local authorities to report a lost or found pet. Your lost pet may have already come in or been reported. A person with a lost pet may have already been in touch with them!

TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION ON SOCIAL MEDIA

You can help a lost pet return home in under an hour by using the power of social media! If your pet is lost, you can get the word out immediately.

1) Snap a photo or two of the lost/found pet. Make a post to your Facebook page (Tip: make sure it is set your post to “public” so it can be shared by others.) Here are samples of the information to include:

Sample #1:

Found dog!

Corner of Hwy 47 and Hwy K (list the location you found the pet)

Jenny Finder, 715-555-5555 (your name and number)

Small dog, terrier mix?, grey and black, male, no collar (description of pet)

Sample #2:

Lost cat!

Davenport Street, Rhinelander (location you last saw your pet)

Taylor Missing, 715-444-4444 (your name and number)

Female, short hair, black, no collar, young (description of pet)

(If you do not have Facebook, email the information to adoption@ochspets.org and we will make a post to the OCHS page.)

2) Share your post to the Oneida County Humane Society Facebook page. Shelters have many followers, so your post will be shared far and wide! You can also send the photo and information in a private message through Facebook to OCHS.
